It depends. Since Sony is drowning in the mud sooner or later. Sony's PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles offer little freedom due to the many restrictions they impose. These include:
- Closing the store with its library of over 3000 PS1-PS3 games.
- Requiring PlayStation Plus, a paid multiplayer service.
- Regular firmware updates with further restrictions.
- Downloading games instead of using physical DVDs or Blu-ray discs;
- High cost of the console depending on the region.
- Difficulty in repairing or replacing physical parts.
- The possibility of closing “PlayStation Now”, which allows one to play older games.
- Only a few MMO games available.
Since the PS4 is considered the second alternative to the PlayStation 3 in terms of an emulator box, one may take the risk of buying it, although it will not reach its full potential unless it is jailbroken to avoid all the lockouts. However, this is only possible in a small number of models compared to the PS3, and so one needs to be lucky enough to purchase the right model.
